Course Content/Objectives
Children’s Parliament has been facilitating a programme commissioned by Aberdeen City Council which is called Imagining Aberdeen. The programme focuses on imagining Aberdeen as a place where children are healthy, happy, safe and doing their best. This CPD sessions provides an opportunity to support and inform how education colleagues consider and deliver opportunities for children and young people to engage meaningfully with key educational priorities and to ‘have their say’.
The sessions use a range of approaches that can be transferred into work at school or other community settings. Participants will leave with background information and copies of material used.
Twilight 1
- Getting started: Identifying key domains for our engagement with children. Ideas of being healthy, happy, safe and doing our best. Framed by life in school, at home and in the community.
- The core ideas: Human dignity and understanding “it’s all about relationships”.
- What knowledge, skills, values and behaviours do we want children and adults to have?
Twilight 2
- Attainment as a human rights issue.
- The importance of learner self-concept and the centrality of the learner/teacher relationship.
- Doing our best: exploring a range of ways to talk about learning and attainment with children and young people.
